Fishing in Gallipoli
Gallipoli's historic centre sits on a small island connected to the mainland by a short bridge, with the town's harbour walls and surrounding rocky shore holding sea bream, bass, and octopus in some of the clearest water on the Ionian coast. The open sandy beaches nearby suit surfcasting for mullet and flatfish, while the harbour itself offers a calmer alternative when the open Ionian coast is choppy. Southerly winds have the most direct effect here, pushing swell straight onto the exposed side of the old town.
